Celebrating Women in New Jersey

It is almost the end of Women’s History Month and therefore we celebrate women’s empowerment in education, suffrage, and the workforce.

Ruth Cameron’s topic for the “The Evening Chit-Chat” featured in the November 7, 1910 issue of Perth Amboy Evening News, is on the importance for women to find their passion in the workforce.

We also celebrate the improvement made over time to include women’s involvement in higher education. The article, “For a Women’s College,” featured in the May 2, 1913 issue of Perth Amboy Evening News discusses the State Federation of Women’s Clubs decision to add a women’s annex at Rutgers University.

Last but not least we cannot forget to mention the Women’s Suffrage Movement that took place in New Jersey. There is a plethora of articles on Chronicling America website that describe women’s rights to vote. One example is an article titled “1,000 Women Will March In Suffrage Parade Tomorrow” featured in the October 25, 1912 issue of Newark Evening Star and Newark Advertiser, which describes a Women’s March organized by the State Woman’s Suffrage Association.
