Description
An account of the resource
A collection of early publications by the Yale and Rutgers Centers of Alcohol Studies document the evolving field of alcohol studies. The Yale and Rutgers Centers of Alcohol Studies considered the dissemination of literature on alcohol and alcoholism as one of the five pillars of alcohol studies. A sample of the early publications provides a glimpse into the wealth and diversity of resources, such as series of pamphlets, memoirs, posters, and lay supplements, illustrate the inclusive target audiences of these publications.
This collection features seminal works published by CAS or collected by the CAS library and unavailable elsewhere (about 350 pdf files and 350 images) including gray literature, such as pamphlets, fact sheets, lay supplements, and material related to publication (bibliographies, and flyers). Note: Following previous decisions, content from the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs will be omitted, since the journal is fully digitized and the back files are available for subscribers as full text.

A key figure in alcohol studies, "Bunky" has strong ties to the history of the Center of Alcohol Studies through the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, publications, and the Summer School. Education - Addiction Studies
Description
An account of the resource
The Summer School of Alcohol Studies Collection tells the story of evolving modern day addiction education, which started at the Summer School of Alcohol Studies (SSAS) with its groundbreaking program at Yale in 1943 and has continued at Rutgers to date. The first SSAS established the tradition of bringing members of the larger community (e.g., Alcoholics Anonymous, alcohol beverage industry representatives, clergy, criminal justice, education, medicine, Women’s Christian Temperance Union, etc.) under one roof along with alcohol researchers. With the leadership of SSAS faculty, the diverse participants took on the problem of alcohol from multiple angles, resulting in major national initiatives which redefined prevailing views of and attitudes towards alcoholism. The Addiction Education Division at Rutgers Center of Alcohol and Substance Use Studies continues to provide extensive opportunities for professional development in substance use prevention, behavioral health and treatment best practices.
